Here are details of what activities were planned for in and around Malvern & Worcester Railway Stations to mark the event.

Pre-anniversary Events:

Wednesday 12th May 2010

"Steaming Through the Hills"
A nostalgic film evening of local and rural railways in steam days presented by film
archivist and author Michael Clemens.
Venue:
Holy Trinity Church Hall, Link Top, Malvern at 7.30 p.m
Admission £5 adults, £2 children which includes refreshments.


Thursday 13th May

"Rails Through The Hills"
An illustrated talk and personal view on local rail history by John Boynton, the author of the book of the same title.
Venue: The Guildhall, High Street, Worcester at 7.30 p.m
Admission £3 includes refreshments.

8th - 21st May and again from 24th May - 5th June
A special exhibition of local rail photographs, artefacts and archive material will be on display.
Venue: Malvern Library, Graham Road, Malvern.
Admission free.


 

 Sunday 23rd May 2010 - Anniversary Gala Day!

Worcester Foregate Street

  • A commemorative 150th anniversary station-totem sign unveiling - 09:20-09:30 by Lord Faulkner
  • A Special Train (with commemorative headboard) service to Great Malvern departing 09:40
    Special train provided by London Midland1

  • There will be a special rail fare for this day too - Between Worcester & Malvern there will be a £1 discount off the normal cheap-day return price! Normal fare £4.50 return, on the day: £3.50 return!

  • A Fanfare'd welcome of the Special Train arriving into Great Malvern at 09:50
  • A commemorative 150th Anniversary station-totem sign unveiling
  • The cutting of the anniversary cake will officially open the days attractions
  • Buy a Commemorative Souvenir ticket

Attractions on the day

  • A wide variety of stallholders

  • Group of 4 tickets for a tour of the Morgan Cars factory to be won!
  • Children's Victorian roundabout ride
  • Face-painting
  • Music by the Malvern Hill Brass Band3

  • Model Railways, including "Abbotswood Junction"
  • An exhibition of local railway artefacts and photographs*
  • A large display by the Worcester O Gauge Guild
  • A raffle with a painting of the station, painted by local railway artist Glynis Dray

*Exhibition provided by Malvern Museum and will also be on display from 17th May in Malvern Library


Special Vehicles attending

  • A preserved Ex-Warwickshire Constabulary Volvo police car (Central Motorway Police Group unit)
  • An ex-West Yorkshire Police Vauxhall Cavalier
  • An ex-Metropolitan Police Rover Metro (which later found TV-stardom fame in "The Bill")
  • A 1954 Army Ferret vehicle

  • A 1928 Foden C-type steam lorry

  • A 1939 Bedford coach

  • A 1947 Daimler coach

The owners of the above vehicles will be on hand to answer questions and provide a demonstrations

In addition to these fantastic special interest vehicles, we are also very lucky that Morgan Motor Cars5 will be displaying their brand new Aero SuperSports car and a 1960's model!
